John Singleton’s family is in a heated battle over control of his affairs following his stroke last week.

There is a fight going on between Singleton’s mother, Shelia Ward, and his daughter, Cleopatra Singleton. The two women are not only sharing significantly different updates on the famed director and producer’s health, but they are fighting over who has control over his care.

On Thursday, Ward, filed papers in a Los Angles court asking for her to be named Singleton’s legal guardian or conservator, during his current health crisis. She also stated that the 2 Fast 2 Furious director was in a coma.

The court documents indicate at the time of his medical crisis, Singleton was in the middle of finalizing various lucrative business deals. One of which needs to be finished by April 30th and if it is not completed will cause significant financial loss for her son.

Ward’s filings also clarify Singleton had not signed a power of attorney, which allows someone to make decisions on his behalf if he was unable to do so himself. She is asking to be the person who does that for her son.

A doctor was required to give a declaration on the director’s current impaired medical state, to decide a conservatorship case. The New York Times obtained a copy of the court papers, which did not specify if Singleton was in a coma.

One of Singleton’s three daughters, Cleopatra, is essentially calling her grandma a liar. She is stepping in on behalf of her siblings, as well as her grandfather to be in control of her father’s affairs.

“My father is not in a coma. My father had a stroke on April 17, 2019, and at this point, we are optimistic about a full recovery. Myself, several of my siblings, and my father’s father will oppose my grandmother’s application to be appointed my father’s legal conservator,” Cleopatra shared in an email to The New York Times.

So John Singleton's mom says he's in a coma after the stroke and is filing the paperwork to take over his affairs but his daughter says he's not in coma, will make a recovery and she, her siblings and grandad are opposed to his mom's actions?? pic.twitter.com/85pdcesKXx

Singleton’s daughter has said her father is currently in a medically sedated state, not a coma. Cleopatra also shared her father responds to stimuli, smiles occasionally and doctors are optimistic the 51-year-old could be moved out of the ICU in less than a week.

John Singleton’s family is fighting over control of his affairs as he recovers from a severe stroke. There is no love lost between any of his children and his mother, who the kids claim in manipulative and controlling when it comes to their father. It is a sentiment Singleton’s son also share back in 2016 in an open letter slamming Shelia Ward.
